Last week my husband took Matthew over to Buffalo to a theme park, Darrien lake.

Even though we are part of the same land mass it is amazing what crossing the border can mean.

In Canada at 19 you are allowed to buy beer and go to a bar, in New York it is 21. What amazed my husband so much was that while walking around the theme park, he saw people carrying mugs of beer everyone.  People were sitting in the shade of big trees have a drink...being responsible....keeping to themselves.

He went up to someone and asked them if that was beer they had in the mug.
"yes, for sure" was the reply,
"well I can't do that where I live!"
"Your Canadian right?" was the reply "yep!"

Well he thought that's ok, it was his birthday that day and decided to have a mug of beer and walk around the park!  He said it was wonderful to do something that at home he couldn't.

In Canada you are not allowed to drink in a public place, by the lake or on the beaches.  When you are camping alcohol has to be consumed only on your campsite and never on the first long weekend of the year!  They know we Canadians love to celebrate the coming of summer after our long hard winters. I can see this as being a good thing for both parts, there is not a problem if people are being responsible...and as with anything it only takes one person to spoil things for all.

Other things that my husband found was that food was a lot cheaper than here and even if the theme park the prices weren't jacked up by our standards anyway.

I remember a couple years back going to a hockey game and one mug of beer cost $12!

Hey Buffalo is only a 3 hour drive, maybe it is worth to cross the border and do some shopping, I am hoping that clothes are cheaper too.

Cheers and have a great day!
Sue
